Host Your Next Tournament at The Kerrville Sports Complex

In the Texas Hill Country, distinctive regions of the Lone Star State converge in a verdant environment of rolling hills and spring-fed rivers. Sports teams are now coming together here, too, for some of the area’s most exciting competitive sporting events at the brand new Kerrville Sports Complex.

If you are planning a baseball, softball, soccer tournament or event, you will want to take a closer look at Kerrville. A two hours’ drive west of Austin and just over an hour northwest of San Antonio, Kerrville is conveniently located in Central Texas. It has small town charm, natural beauty and now, big-time sports.

In 2018, the city of Kerrville opened Kerrville Sports Complex, a $14 million, 104-acre facility featuring high-quality baseball, softball and soccer fields suitable for a year-round league and tournament play. Located just minutes from Interstate 10 in Kerrville, the complex has:

  • Four Little League baseball fields
  • Two adult baseball fields
  • Three girls softball fields
  • Two adult softball fields
  • 20 acres of youth and adult soccer fields
All are available for reservation and can accommodate youth, high school and adult tournaments at the local, regional, state and national levels. Coaches, players and you will appreciate the pristine condition of the fields and facilities, which include covered bleachers and spectator space, air-conditioned restrooms and full concessions. More than 400 paved parking spaces are available on-site.

Adding to the excitement and opportunities for young athletes, Kerrville Sports Complex is also home to D-BAT Kerrville. D-BAT is billed as the premier baseball and softball training facility in the country. According to one of the owners of D-BAT, the Kerrville location is “the Taj Mahal” of D-BAT training facilities.

Players can take private baseball or softball lessons and shop for equipment and apparel in the fully stocked pro shop. At the indoor batting cages, outfitted with pitching machines that throw baseballs and softballs, players can practice their swing at speeds customized for their sport and level of play. More than 50 camps and clinics are offered throughout the year, focusing on a variety of skills and age groups. Some of the most popular events are the spring break camp, summer camp, and bat speed clinics. D-BAT also offers space and programming for birthday parties. In a San Antonio Express-News article talking about the opening of Kerrville Sports Complex, one amateur baseball tournament director said, “There are other facilities that are similar in setup, but they don’t compare.” A high school athletic director, whose soccer teams held games at the Kerrville Sports Complex, said, “The new fields are regulation-size and in excellent shape, with plenty of light and lots of parking.”

Walkers, joggers, bikers or anyone wanting to take in the scenery of downtown Kerrville can enjoy more than 4 miles of trails at Kerrville River Trail. It connects sites such as the Riverside Nature Center, where you can observe and learn about native plants and wildlife; Louise Hays Park, a day-use park with a picnic area, playground, basketball courts and interactive fountain/splash pad; and Kerrville-Schreiner Park, which offers hiking trails, fishing from the river bank, sand volleyball, and different options for camping and hosting gatherings for a group. Both parks are popular sites for getting outdoors to relax and play, and if you are feeling adventurous, embarking on a canoe, kayak or paddleboard excursion on the Guadalupe River.

For something a little different, your group may enjoy a visit to the Museum of Western Art. Through visual artwork and exhibits depicting hardworking cowboys, Native Americans, women of the West, settlers and mountain men, the museum celebrates the pioneering spirit and rich heritage of the western United States.

Kerrville is not a stranger to hosting athletic events. The city annually welcomes triathletes and cyclists for popular race events. Since its inception, more than 6,000 athletes have participated in the Kerrville Triathlon Festival, held each September. The Easter Hill Country Tour brings cyclists from all over the state to bike on trails and roadways across the region each year on Easter weekend.

To host large events in Kerrville, the Kerrville Convention & Visitors Bureau convention services staff can assist you with planning and coordinating services to make your tournament or meeting a success. The teams’ knowledge is unmatched when it comes to local accommodations, meeting and event space and the many recreational activities the area has to offer for your off-the-field time.

You will find a variety of lodging options in Kerrville as well. Reserve rooms for your event at one of the city’s hotels or book stays at a local bed-and-breakfast establishment, a quaint resort or RV campground. Sports teams will have no trouble fueling up for their big games since local restaurants and popular chain eateries are plentiful in Kerrville. Many provide catering, which is a good option for a post-game party or team function.

One of the area’s most photographed sites, Stonehenge II is located on the grounds of the Hill Country Arts Foundation in nearby Ingram, Texas. A replica of the original Stonehenge in England, this landmark structure was created as an art project more than 20 years ago. It is open to the public daily from sunup to sundown, but the space is frequently reserved for private events. You are advised to call the Hill Country Arts Foundation before you go to ensure the site is open when you plan to visit. Stonehenge II could be an interesting backdrop for team photos.

Time will tell if future World Series and World Cup stars will be able to say they got their start playing in Kerrville, but it is certain the Kerrville Sports Complex has raised the profile of Kerrville as a destination for sports and events in the Texas Hill Country. It is a place where you can experience an outstanding and fun environment.

With so many things to do here, Kerrville has much to offer when you host a sports event or tournament in Central Texas.
