Hunt, TX April 2024: On Friday evening, May 10th the Mike Bourne Band will bring their unique style of jump blues, blues and root music from Kansas City to Texas for one night only – to Ingram’s own Lazy Days Canteen at Roddy Tree Ranch. Bourne is in town to play a private event Saturday evening for a local Hunt resident – but Friday’s appearance will be open to the public (tickets $15 at gate, reserved seating available online at LazyDaysCanteen.com).

Mike Bourne got a fairly late start for a musician, not picking up the guitar until age 22. But a few years later, he was already playing professionally. On his current record - Roots Blues national chart topping “Cruisin Kansas City” - the guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter pays tribute to his Missouri home and the players who inspired and nurtured him along the way. Over 13 originals, Bourne and the band he assembled for this album power through a collection of songs rooted in tradition, but strikingly original. Two of the songs – “Cruisin Kansas City”, and “Loose With The Truth”, spent multiple weeks at the #1 single spot on the Roots Music Report chart.

When asked in a recent interview how he wanted his music to affect people, Bourne responded “My songwriting is part storytelling and part how I feel. I wrote “I’d rather be happy than normal” and that resonated with me and a lot of people. On the new record, “Help somebody who can’t help you back” is something my grandad preached and lived. “Lose your rings, keep your fingers” was advice from my friend’s Portuguese father… In the end, I hope my music makes people happy and more comfortable in their own skin. On my last trip to Asia, I saw scrawled on a wall “You are enough.” Yeah, I hope my music makes people feel that way.”

Mike Bourne has been knocking audiences out around the globe in clubs like the House of Blues, Hard Rock Cafe, Buddy Guys Legends and Festivals including the Roots and Blues Festival, the International Jazz and Blues festival in Manila, and the Coleman Hawkins Blues Festival. He's recorded and played with legends including Otis Rush, Sam Lay (Muddy Waters and Bob Dylan's drummer), BarrelHouse Chuck, and many more. Joining him on stage in Ingram will be KC Boogie, including Mike’s long time drummer Bryan Hermann. The Mike Bourne band is spreading the blues tradition started on Maxwell -- but with new songs and new grooves. Doors open May 10th at 6:00 pm, band plays at 8:30.
